Vaginal Dryness

FemTouch Vaginal Laser treatment helps to increase vaginal lubrication, without the use of hormones.  This is especially useful for women who cannot take hormonal supplements, such as women who have had past history of specific types of gynaecological cancers.

Studies report that 1 in 3 women are troubled by vaginal dryness, but many women do not seek treatment.

Urinary Leakage

FemTouch Vaginal CO2 Laser may be useful for women with mild urinary stress incontinence.

Urinary stress incontinence is not uncommon after menopause, but can also affect many young women especially after childbirth.

Vaginal Laxity

FemTouch Vaginal Laser treatment may be useful for women with mild vaginal prolapse and laxity.  It can be used as an adjunct to conservative management of vaginal prolapse, together with physiotherapy and pelvic floor exercises.

FemTouch™ is an out-patient, minimally invasive, non surgical, non-hormonal laser vaginal procedure, that stimulate new collagen production for healthier tissue.

It is quick and simple, and is performed in the clinic without then need for anaesthetics or hospitalisation.

  • Reduction in vaginal burning and itching sensation
  • Decreased urinary urgency and stress incontinence
  • Reduced vaginal and vulval pain
  • Less vaginal and bladder infections, with no odorous discharge
  • Sensation of vaginal tightening, and better elasticity of the vaginal walls
  • Increased sensation and sexual function, including orgasm and responsiveness in vulvovaginal tissues
  • Increased libido and self-confidence

How Many Sessions of FemTouch Treatment are Required?

A typical treatment course would involve 3 sessions, in order to achieve a sustained long-term improvement on the vaginal tissues.

Many women feel an improvement after the first 1 or 2 sessions, but the 3rd session is recommended for complete treatment.

There is no down-time, and so women can return to work and exercise immediately after each FemTouch session.

Is the FemTouch Treatment Painful?

The FemTouch procedure is a non-invasive painless procedure, and entire FemTouch procedure should be completed within approximately 5 minutes.

The gynaecologist will insert a sterile blue applicator into the vagina, and apply the laser treatment by rotating the tube as it is removed from the vagina.

What Do Women Feel During and After the FemTouch Treatment?

Menopausal symptoms after hysterectomy can be managed effectively

During the FemTouch treatment, you may experience a minor heat sensation, but it is very gentle and you should not feel pain.  Many women describe the discomfort as being similar to having a Pap Smear examination.

How Does the FemTouch Treatment Work?

FemTouch is one of several Fractionated CO2 Laser Treatments available.  Other forms of Fractionated CO2 vaginal laser treatments include the MonaLisa Touch and FemiLift.  The principle of these vaginal laser systems involve the application of precisely controlled laser microbeams onto the lining of the vagina, stimulating the growth of tissues by triggering the production of collagen.

What do the Vaginal Tissues Look Like Before and After the FemTouch Treatment?

On the left is a picture of the vaginal tissues before the FemTouch treatment.  There is reduced vascularity, consistent with the pale lining of the mucosa, causing the symptoms associated with reduced elasticity.

On the right is a picture of the vaginal tissues after the FemTouch treatment, showing increased vascularity of the vaginal tissues.  The microbeams of fractionated CO2 laser triggers collagen in the tissues, resulting in rejuvenation and increased elasticity of the vagina.

What do the Vaginal Tissues Look Like Under the Microscope (Histology)?

In an ex-vivo porcine study, the vaginal mucosa is examined under the microscope after the FemTouch Fractionated CO2 laser treatment.

Histological effect is seen in the vaginal mucosa to a depth of 200 to 500 microns.

The FemTouch laser treatment utilises energy level of 7.5 – 12.5mJ, ensuring the desirable depth of penetration, while ensuring that the deeper fibromuscular layer at a depth of 600 microns remains intact.

Is FemTouch Suitable for Me?

FemTouch CO2 Laser procedures are not suitable for everyone, and that’s why it is essential to have a consultation to have a gynaecologist to assess your personal situation before deciding upon the best treatment approach for you.  For example, women who have taken Accutane® (Isotretinoin) within the last 6-12 months, or have a history of keloid formation, may not be suitable for the CO2 Laser Treatments. Potential risks may include change of pigmentation, infection, redness, textural changes or scarring. Therefore make sure you consult a specialist gynaecologist regarding treatment options available, and assess the potential benefits and risks based on your individual concerns and medical history, before choosing a treatment.
